When should you consider advanced wound care? When simple dressings and adequate wound care aren't enough, advanced treatment becomes necessary. Here are some signs that basic wound care isn't sufficient and you may need a more intensive medical approach. Worsening pain, redness, or swelling  These are common signs of infection, especially if accompanied by pus. No noticeable improvement after two weeks  Most wounds show signs of improvement within 14 days and typically heal within 4-6 weeks. If the wound remains the same—or worsens—after this period, it means that treatments aren't improving the infection. Drainage or foul odor  Persistent drainage and a foul-smelling wound odor may indicate tissue damage or bacterial growth.
